Barrier-Free in the Moors. Collecting Proposals for Creating a Barrier-Free Space within the Walls of the Knight’s Tower of the Medzhybizh Castle

14 November, 2025

The Center for Urban History in partnership with the State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Mezhybizh” invites architectural firms, design and restoration companies to submit price proposals for the development of scientific and project documentation for the site: “Restoration of the Knight’s (pentagonal) Tower (part of the architectural monument of national importance – the walls with a tower, XVI century, protection No. 764/3) with adaptation for the museum function and ensuring the inclusiveness of the interior space”, at 1 Zamkova Street, Medzhybizh village, Khmelnytskyi region.

These works are part of the project “REHERIT 2.0: Common Responsibility for Shared Heritage”, which aims to rethink multicultural heritage as a space for dialogue, mutual understanding, and inclusion. One of its directions is the introduction of inclusive approaches to the cultural heritage of Medzhybizh. The key task for this is to equip the space of the Knight’s Tower according to the principles of universal design and create an accessible environment for all groups of people, including people with low mobility. The renovated tower will become a universal exhibition and cultural event space that will combine the themes of multicultural heritage, inclusiveness, and community development.

We are looking for a team that can combine professional restoration, modern vision, and universal design principles. The task is to create a project that will transform the Knight’s Tower into an accessible, functional, and expressive museum space that is accessible to all.
