From August 4 to 8, an urban workshop was held in Rivne to rethink the space known as “Yevreyka Park.”
Within the space of “Yevreyka Park”, traces of the past and modern manifestations of urban life are intertwined. At the same time, archaeological evidence important for the history of Rivne coexists here, there are bicycle jumps and walking trails, and the site has a unique environmental potential. This diversity requires a delicate approach to restoration, respecting historical memory and taking into account the modern needs of the community.
The workshop was attended by architects, urbanists, cultural studies experts, sociologists, geographers, and cultural managers from different parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Rivne, and Rivne Oblast. The event was facilitated by Olha Kryvoruchko and Valentyn Sharovatov, co-founders of the Urbanideas architectural studio.
Together, the participants conducted a five-day research, which included: field mapping of the space, photography, observation, processing of archival materials, strategic sessions with stakeholders, and active exchange of ideas. In particular, during the research, the participants analyzed the historical features, sacred significance, and modern use of the space. For example, one of the objects of study was matzevah and the search for ways to incorporate them into the future life of the location.
On the last day of the urban workshop, the participants presented the results of their research and ideas for the future of the space at an open presentation. The results include meaningful and substantiated theses and recommendations for solutions regarding architectural vision, zoning, style, and material selection. These developments will form the basis for the preparation of high-quality terms of reference for the architectural competition.
